The Cassadaga Job Corps Center, in Cassadaga, N.Y., completed a major renovation of its Culinary Arts building, refurbishing features from the ground up that improve its appearance and its functionality. Building improvements include new brickwork, drywall, and ceilings, as well as energy-saving features such as high-efficiency HVAC systems, windows, and lighting fixtures. The new design will also help the center withstand the harsh winter weather conditions in the area.

With winter weather settling in, high heating bills have many people thinking about energy efficiency in their homes this year. 

Three Job Corps centers have begun offering students a new Weatherization Technician advanced training program that focuses primarily on energy efficiency. The program teaches students with a construction background green skills that will make them more employable in the workforce.

The Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center, located in Grand Rapids, Mich., recently received $13.5 million in ARRA funds for several campus renovation projects. The new construction is expected to involve more than 15 local small businesses and have an immediate $13 million economic impact for Grand Rapids and the state of Michigan. The project will upgrade the center’s main building, auditorium, and gymnasium.
