Skills
Students in Hotel and Lodging are trained in the following subject areas:
- Making and confirming reservations
- Greeting, registering, and assigning rooms to guests of hotels or motels
- Verifying customers’ credit and establishing how the customer will pay for the accommodation
- Issuing room keys or cards
- Contacting housekeeping or maintenance staff when guests report problems
- Monitoring and keeping common areas clean and safe, including the reception area, laundry room, and lounges
- Serving and/or clearing the restaurant or eating area
- Transmitting and receiving messages for guests
- Keeping records of occupied rooms and guests’ accounts
- Presenting statements to and collecting payments from departing guests
Requirements
Before entering the program, students must:
- At least 90 days of experience working in a hospitality-related position
- Complete the core curriculum with passing scores on all written and performance tests.
- Meet basic academic requirements in math and reading.
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
